About Akasia
Dr. Akasia Nelson is from Northern California and grew up north of San Francisco in Sonoma County. She completed her undergraduate studies in Human Biology at the University of California Santa Cruz. She moved to Massachusetts to study at the New England School of Acupuncture at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS). Akasia earned her masters in Chinese Herbal Medicine and doctorate in Acupuncture and Integrative Pain Management. She is trained in Chinese, Japanese, and orthopedic acupuncture styles, with a special interest in Sports injuries and pain. She is also trained in myofascial trigger point dry needling.
Akasia is committed to helping her patients heal and return to the joy of movement. With a specialization in Integrative Pain Management, she enjoys collaborating with physical therapists and other movement specialists in shared patient care. While living in New England, Akasia gained experience working in Boston, Massachusetts with high level endurance athletes during training to optimize both performance and recovery. Her work with both professional and recreational athletes is complimented by her own personal love for movement.
Akasia is very passionate about fitness in many forms with a background in dance and a current passion for running and strength training. When she’s not treating patients or at the gym, Akasia is running in the Berkeley hills. She also loves watercolor painting, and carving stamps for printmaking. She is a lifelong student with a passion for studying human physiology and a desire to always keep learning.
